Typical MCOM Student Schedule
The class schedule at the Midwest College of Oriental Medicine is designed for individuals who need to work full/part time while they are working toward their educational goals. That is why MCOM has a schedule consisting of weekday evening and weekend classes. Your schedule will vary depending on what time of year you start. The schedule is also designed to keep students on track to graduate. Below we are going to break this down for you. If you are a Acupuncture or Oriental Medicine school transfer student, click here.
Winter Quarter Start
The next winter quarter will begin January 6, 2017
Students who begin during the winter quarter (TCM School transfer students excluded) do not begin the program full time. Because MCOM typically teaches classes only one time per year, students who start in the winter do not have the fall quarter prerequisite classes to take the available course offerings.
If a student starts in the Winter, they will qualify to take only 2 courses. The student will be able to take 1 Saturday course and 1 Monday evening course. This option is ideal for the student who wants to ease into the program. During the spring and summer quarters, you will also take 2 courses each term. By taking this route, you will make the proceeding fall quarter schedule lighter in courses.
Spring Quarter Start
The next spring quarter will begin April 1, 2017
Similarly to the winter start, a spring start only allows the student to take 2 courses during the term. Students who start in the spring do not have the fall quarter prerequisite classes to take all available course offerings. This start date is favorable to students who want to ease into the program. It is the second most preferred start date following the traditional fall start.
Summer Quarter Start
The next summer quarter will begin July 1, 2017
Similarly to the spring start, a summer start only allows the student to take 2 courses during the term. This start is ideal for students who are finishing up their spring term at another college. This term allows students to test out the program before beginning full time in the fall.
Fall Quarter Start
The next Fall quarter will begin September 30, 2017
The fall quarter is the ideal time to start for the student who wants to complete their program in the shortest amount of time. Each fall we begin a new class of students who progress through the program at an equal pace and programmatic schedule. A typical student will have 3 classes on Saturday, 1 evening class on Monday, and 1 weekday clinical shift (4.5 hours) per week. This is all assuming that the student enters our program with no transfer credit.
This schedule will remain consistent for the first 4 quarters as a MCOM student no matter what program you are enrolled in. During the 5th quarter, Oriental Medicine Program students start the Chinese Herbal Medicine component to their education. The night of the Chinese Herbal Medicine class is subject to the campus and year that the student starts the program. Acupuncture Program students will no longer have a Monday night class for the remainder of the program.
