The famous saying by Sun Simiao sets the tone for this class; "doctors should first understand the pathogenesis of disease and then treat it with diet". TCM treatment, whether acu/moxa or herbs, is enhanced when the treatment principle is supported by healthy eating. In this course, students will learn how to use Asian and common American foods in maintaining health according to TCM theory. In the College's Nutrition Clinic, interns recommend foods to add and foods to avoid according to the pattern of disharmony. Interns also offer recipes and cooking advice based on principles of food energetics.
