This class concludes the study of at least 300 individual herbs. Students learn the name, category, function, and visual identification of approximately another 100 herbs. Temperature, taste, and the meridians affected are taught, along with the Latin nomenclature and Chinese names for all of the herbs. Students learn the methods of preparations such as honey baked, fried, etc. Specific herbal contra-indications, individual herb dosages, as well as substitutions for endangered species are taught in this class. The nutritive function is included when the herb also is used in food therapy.
