600 Introduction to Herbs /Chinese Materia Medica 1

Students learn the name, category, function, and visual identification of at least 100 herbs. Temperature, taste, and the meridians affected are taught, along with the Latin nomenclature and Chinese names for all of the herbs. Students will learn the methods of preparations, contra-indications, herb dosage, as well as, substitutions for endangered species. The nutritive function is included when the herb also is used in food therapy. Other topics such as history of herbology, botany, and a review of TCM theory is presented. The study of herbs is really an art. Instructors in this class have many years of clinical experience and provide information beyond that found in a textbook.
