Advisory Board

Terri Aaen, B.A., M.R.E, is a public member of the Board of Advisors. She has a Master of Religious Education from Loyola University. Ms. Aaen is a Zen Buddhist Dharma (spiritual principle) teacher. Public Member

John Ballarini, M.S. Ph.D., is a chemical consultant with a masters degree in synthetic organic chemistry from Marquette University and a Ph.D. from the Guangzhou University. His specialty is herbs and nutrition to eliminate toxic effects on the body.

Deirdre Burrell, B.A. , Dipl. Ac. NCCA, has a Bachelors Degree in Biology from Stillman College. She began private practice in 1990. She is past president of the Illinois State Acupuncture Association.

Sidong Chen, M.D., M.A., M.S.M., Dipl.Ac. NCCA, received his medical degree from the Zhanjiang medical college in Zhanjiang China. He completed his Master of Science in Chinese medicine at the Jinan University in Guangzhou.

James Harvitt, M.B.A., L.Ac., directs special projects at the Lincoln Park Hospital in Chicago. He is a licensed investment banker with more than twenty years of Wall Street experience. Mr. Harvitt is a certified Mind/Body educator and is Trustee Emeritus of the Norwegian American Hospital.

William Hourigan, J.D., received his law degree from Loyola University. He has experience related to health care and legal issues surrounding the practice of Traditional Chinese Medicine. He is the Chairman of the Board of Advisors.

Chris Krajniak as a consultant to the school, he coordinates marketing and new business development efforts to attract new students. During his term as Alderman in the City of Milwaukee he was appointed president of the Milwaukee Arts Board and vice-president of the Milwaukee Library Board.

Kris LaPoint, M.B., Ph.D., Dipl. Ac. NCCA, received her Bachelor of Medicine and Doctor of Philosophy from the Guangzhou University. Dr. La Point helps foster communication between the Board and other parts of the school community. She acts as a liaison between the Midwest College and a number of national organizations.

Diane LaRochelle, Ph.D., H.N.C., is a public member of the Board of Advisors. Formerly she served as Director of the Medicine Hospital at Rush-Presbyterian St. Lukes Medical Center and Professor at Rush University. Public Member.

Jangyul Park, Ph.D., L.Ac., Dipl. Ac. NCCA, is a staff scientist at Argonne National Laboratory. He previously served on the Board of the ACAOM as a commissioner, and the Board of the Korean School of Illinois as a chairperson. Dr. Park graduated from Cornell University with a Ph.D. in materials science. He was also educated in acupuncture and herbology, and certified by the NCCAOM.

Darci Sprader, B.A., Dipl. Ac. NCCA, She is a graduate of the Midwest College and brings the point of view of a graduate in private practice to the decision making process at the Midwest College.

The corporate governing body of the Midwest College of Oriental Medicine is Acupuncture Center Inc. The corporate directors and sole shareholders are William Dunbar and Robert Chelnick.
